Creating a 3D pointcloud of my room
A late 2021-early 2022 adventure - 28/02/22
If I remember correctly (writing this in 2024), the steps consisted as follow:
- getting a hold of an used kinect for 20 euros in a used game shop (Micromania - Zing),
- installing libfreenect,
- Installing RTAB-MAP,
- Noticing that any scan that I do too quickly ends up in poor localization and that I need to move the camera very slowly to scan stuff,
- Using potree to visualize the 3D pointclouds.
